Clients often make the mistake of leaving change management to the last minute. It is best to initiate change management early enough to involve stakeholders in the design process, but really ramp up efforts 8-12 weeks before the transition to inform, excite and prepare staff. Change continues after the transition as people get accustomed to the new environment. A Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is a great way to address trouble spots quickly but also to collect learnings for future projects.

No project is perfect, so a POE can help catch problem areas (e.g. design issues, behavior challenges) quickly before they take firm root and re-adjust. POEs provide learnings for future projects and help organizations build on successes while avoiding mistakes.
